THE SHORTY holds 13 to 18 litres. The other Brompton backpacks from LUMABAG start at 22 litres. On the bike the bag sits in the front carrier block, off the bike it turns into a backpack, and the bag frame for it is included. Inside are three open pockets and a key leash. Outside, a pocket with an elastic cord sits on either side, for your bike lock or water bottle. Uwe Arndt sews every bag on its own in Bremen, and it is ready approx. 2 to 3 weeks after your order comes in.

THE SHORTY on the G Line and on the four other model lines

THE SHORTY fits five Brompton model lines: the A Line, C Line, G Line, P Line and T Line. The bag always rides up front, in the front carrier block on the frame. Brompton supplies that mount, and it is bolted to the bike once. What LUMABAG supplies is the bag frame, which sits in the back panel and comes with every bag. To fit the bag, slide that frame into the block.

THE SHORTY carries two pockets outside, three inside and a key leash. A side pocket is an open pocket with an elastic cord across it, meant for a bike lock or a water bottle. Both stay within reach while the main compartment stays shut. The top closes with a roll-top, roll the fabric down and press the Fidlock magnetic buckle together. Papers, cables, shopping and a rain jacket all go into the main compartment. That makes THE SHORTY a bag for a day’s kit. Packed full, the bag grows from 26 to 40 cm in height, at 29 cm wide and 15 cm deep. It weighs 1.0 kg, and 1.3 kg with the frame in place.

What happens to the straps before you ride

On the bike the strap has two fixed places. The Loxx fastener is the point at the top of the bag that holds the long strap end, while the straps themselves belong in the loop on the back panel. Spokes and strap keep out of each other’s way for the whole ride. You set the length to your body beforehand.

How the waxed cotton ages

Waxed cotton is a cotton fabric with a wax finish, applied by a mill in Scotland. The wax finish makes the outer shell water-repellent. You see it at the folds: where the bag was turned right side out during sewing, the tone lightens, and those marks are part of the fabric. The wax tin from LUMABAG keeps the refill for that finish ready. Inside and in the base sits Cordura. On this nylon fabric the coating sits on one side, and outdoor gear uses it widely. The base also holds a piece of recycled bicycle tyre. Which tread shows up depends on the tyre it was cut from. Five colours are available: Black, Scarlett, Tan, Otter Green and Colourful. Colourful combines fabric panels of differing colour on one bag.

Small instead of large: THE SHORTY next to THE URBAN TRAVELLER

THE SHORTY and THE URBAN TRAVELLER hang on the same mount and wear the same fabrics. Volume is where they part: 13 to 18 litres here, 22 to 30 litres there. The footprint measures 29 × 15 cm against 33 × 20 cm. What decides it is the daily load. THE SHORTY takes what one day asks for, THE URBAN TRAVELLER the laptop on top of that.

Does THE SHORTY fit the Brompton G Line?

Yes, the G Line is one of five model lines THE SHORTY fits. The bag sits in its front carrier block, just as it does on the A, C, P and T Line.

What comes with the bag?

The bag and the bag frame. The front carrier block you buy from Brompton.

How long does it take to make?

Approx. 2 to 3 weeks, because every bag is made on its own. Outside Germany, add approx. 3 to 6 days for shipping.

Do keys and cards stay within reach?

Your keys hang on the key leash in the main compartment. For cards and small items there is the MIMI extra bag, a 0.5-litre bag weighing 0.1 kg that attaches to the outside of THE SHORTY with its own fasteners.
