Two materials out of the sports hall
Portemonnaie Big is an upcycled wallet made from retired sports hall material. Leather from a vaulting box and a vaulting horse forms the outside, and a lining cut from a gym mat sits inside. The wallet measures approx. 20 × 11 cm and holds at least 16 cards. Uwe Arndt sews them in Bremen, and a reflector clasp keeps each one shut.

Where the leather comes from
The lid of a vaulting box carries a leather hide, and that hide becomes the outside of the wallet. LUMABAG works with leather from 3 kinds of apparatus: the vaulting box, the vaulting buck and the vaulting horse. A vaulting box is the box-shaped apparatus used for vaulting in school gymnastics, and the horse carries a similar hide across its long body. Once a hall lets its equipment go, LUMABAG strips the covers off and patches them before any cutting starts. Colour and surface therefore differ from one piece of equipment to the next.

At least 16 cards and two zips
Inside, the card slots sit staggered on top of one another, and at least 16 cards fit in them. A zip pocket runs across underneath for banknotes. The second zip sits on the outside of the back and stops coins from slipping out of the back pocket. Closed, the wallet comes to approx. 20 cm across and 11 cm high, and the depth runs between one and two centimetres, depending on what is in it. Anyone carrying fewer cards will find the same build in the Portemonnaie Small of the Sport Edition, which holds at least ten cards.

Why the cut pieces go into the washing machine
Inside sits a gym mat that a school or a club has retired. The mat comes apart first. Its core is usually bonded foam, and bonded foam is a material of foam flakes that have been glued and pressed together. The core goes on into small mats such as the seat cushion, or into other recycling. What remains is the mat cover. It gets cut to size, and the pieces go through a brush and the washing machine. Drying happens on the washing line. Only then do the cut pieces reach the sewing machine.

The clasp that recalls a school satchel
A reflector clasp is a metal catch with a reflector set into its frame. People know the design from old school satchels, where a catch of this kind held the flap down. On the Portemonnaie Big, the reflector comes in red or orange. The variant picker shows which colour is available right now.

No two wallets are alike
A one-off is a piece that exists exactly once, and on the Portemonnaie Big the leather decides it. Two wallets from the same week turn out differently, because their leather came from two different pieces of equipment. A leather care note ships with every order. The product photos show one example, and your wallet will have a look of its own.

How many cards fit inside?
At least 16. The slots sit staggered, and the zip pocket inside and the back pocket come on top of that.
When will the wallet be ready?
Delivery takes approx. 2 to 3 weeks, because every piece is sewn to order. For destinations outside Germany, count on approx. 3 to 6 days more.
What is the difference from the Portemonnaie Small?
Size and fittings: the Big measures approx. 20 × 11 cm, the Small approx. 16 × 10. The Big holds at least 16 cards and adds the back pocket with its zip. The Small holds at least ten cards. Material and closure are the same on both.
Will I get exactly the piece in the photo?
Colour and surface depend on the equipment its leather came from. The photo shows one example.
What was the leather before?
It covered a piece of gymnastics equipment, and it gets patched before cutting.
