The seat cushion in brief
This seat cushion is a padded seat with a cover cut from a retired gym mat. It measures approx. 30 × 40 cm, and leather that once covered old gymnastics equipment forms the corners. Uwe Arndt sews every cushion by hand in Bremen. It sits on a beer crate as readily as on a workshop floor.

What the gym mat did before
A gym mat is the padded mat that people tumble and land on in a sports hall. It spends years in the halls of schools and sports clubs. It is rarely the whole mat that wears out; it is the edges and corners that scrape along the floor. When a gym retires a mat, LUMABAG strips it down. The core is bonded foam, flakes of foam glued and pressed together. It goes into small mats like this cushion, as long as it is still sound. Where the foam is spent, fresh bonded foam goes in.

Leather corners from old gymnastics equipment
Leather sits at the corners. It comes off the covers of retired gymnastics equipment, such as the vaulting box and the vaulting buck. A vaulting buck is a piece of school gymnastics equipment, and its top is covered in leather. The same hide goes into the Big and Small recycled wallets of the Sport Edition. The leather comes off different pieces of equipment and looks different on every cushion.

Blue, green and grey, and every mat is different
Gym mats come out of the halls in blue, green and grey. The surface is either ribbed or smooth: ribbed means a pattern of grooves; smooth means flat. Which shade a mat carries comes down to where it came from. So every cushion is one of a kind, with a colour that came out of its own gym. Padding instead of a wooden top on a beer crate
A beer crate seat is a top that turns an empty crate into a stool, and wood is the common material. The difference here is the padding: this cushion lays approx. 30 × 40 cm of upholstery across the crate instead of covering it with wood. It fits any crate with the same footprint.

Where else the cushion ends up
The workshop is the second home for this cushion. Drop it on the floor when you work on a bike and kneel on it. Approx. 1.7 kg is what it brings along, approx. 30 × 40 cm is what it covers. It finds a place at home and in the car just as easily. At a party it saves you a chair, because the drinks crate becomes a seat.

Does the cushion fit a beer crate?
Crates with a footprint of approx. 30 × 40 cm. Drinks crates vary in size, so measure yours first.
How soon will it reach you?
In approx. 7 to 10 days. Outside Germany, add approx. 2 to 3 days.
Can I kneel on it?
Yes. As a kneeling pad it works the same way as a seat cushion, for instance when you service a bike.

Shade and leather corners follow the mat and the equipment they came from. The product photos show examples.
Which parts of the cushion are new?
Two: the zip and the thread. Everything else had a life in a sports hall first.
