QUER at a glance

The QUER is a bike backpack in landscape format for the Brompton folding bike. On the bike it sits sideways in the front carrier block. On your back you carry it upright. Uwe Arndt sews every QUER to order in Bremen, Germany. The outer fabric is waxed cotton, the lining is Cordura, and the back panel is ECOPAK, a recycled fabric laminate. The QUER holds around 30 to 32 litres and offers a laptop compartment for 13 to 15 inch laptops plus five flat pockets.

Three materials: ECOPAK, waxed cotton and Cordura

The back panel of the QUER is made of ECOPAK. ECOPAK is a fabric laminate whose components are made from 100% recycled polyester. For the outer shell, LUMABAG uses waxed cotton. The waxed cotton is finished at a mill in Scotland. Its waxed surface makes the fabric water-repellent. Turning the pack right side out leaves light crease marks in the waxed fabric, and those traces belong to the material. The lining is Cordura, a hard-wearing, single-side coated nylon from the outdoor world. A piece of recycled bicycle tyre is worked into the base of every QUER, and it looks different from bag to bag. That detail makes every QUER one of a kind.

How the QUER sits on the Brompton

Mounting runs through the Brompton front carrier block. The front carrier block is the luggage mount at the front of the Brompton’s frame. The matching bag frame is part of the delivery. LUMABAG recommends the QUER for Brompton models with the S-type handlebar. Roll the top down and fix it with the two magnetic Fidlock buckles. A magnet holds the padded shoulder straps against the back of the bag while you ride. The strap system adjusts in length to your body. On the side sits a flat pocket for your bike lock or a water bottle. Inside, the QUER offers a laptop compartment for 13 to 15 inch laptops and five flat pockets. The QUER measures H 30 to 45 × W 45 × D 21 to 25 cm. It holds around 30 to 32 litres and weighs 1.9 kg. Every QUER is sewn after you order. Delivery takes approx. 2 to 3 weeks.

QUER or Bromfort?

The Bromfort from LUMABAG sits in the same front carrier block but stands upright. In volume the two sit close together. The QUER holds around 30 to 32 litres, the Bromfort 22 to 30 litres in its main compartment. The materials differ as well: the QUER has the ECOPAK back panel, while the Bromfort uses waxed cotton and Cordura. The choice comes down to format: sideways on the handlebar means QUER, upright means Bromfort.

With the carry strap, the QUER becomes a shoulder bag

The carry strap from LUMABAG is a separate accessory for the QUER, Bromfort and Brom-E backpacks. With the carry strap for Bromfort, QUER and Brom-E, the QUER turns into a shoulder bag. Carry it from the parked Brompton straight into the library. That way the QUER works on foot as well as on the bike. The strap is sold as a separate item.

Questions and answers about the QUER

What is ECOPAK?

ECOPAK is a recycled fabric laminate made from plastic bottles (PET). Every metre of fabric reuses more than 20 bottles and saves more than 450 grams of carbon dioxide. On the QUER, the back panel is made of ECOPAK.

Does the QUER fit every Brompton?

Any Brompton folding bike with a mounted front carrier block takes the QUER. LUMABAG recommends the QUER for models with the S-type handlebar. A matching bag frame arrives with every order.

Is the QUER waterproof?

Rain beads off the waxed cotton, which makes the QUER water-repellent. When needed, you apply fresh wax with the LUMABAG wax tin.
