The bag for the Brompton Electric: the essentials first

The Brom-E is the LUMABAG bag for the Brompton Electric, a landscape-format bike backpack. It is cut to fit the carrier block of the electric folding bike. The carrier block takes the Brom-E sideways, and off the bike you wear it upright as a backpack. Behind every Brom-E stands Uwe Arndt’s workshop in Bremen, and each bag is made only after you order. The large main compartment takes around 30 to 32 litres. ECOPAK on the back and base keeps the weight at 1.9 kg.

ECOPAK sits where weight matters: on the back panel and the base. The very light backpack laminate is produced from recycled plastic bottles (PET). The remaining panels use waxed cotton, whose wax layer repels water. Reflective Cordura is a Cordura weave with a reflective thread running through it. Two stripes of it sit along the sides of the Brom-E and keep you visible on dark days and at night. LUMABAG lines the main compartment with Cordura. The single-side coated nylon is known from outdoor gear and correspondingly robust. The base also carries recycled bicycle tyre, and the tread pattern makes every Brom-E visibly different.

Roll-top, magnets and one large compartment

The carrier block of the Brompton Electric is the front mount that takes the bag frame and the bag. The roll-top closes the Brom-E: roll it down, press the two Fidlock magnetic buckles shut. Across the front runs a strap with webbing loops for attaching accessories. Adjust the padded straps to your build. While you ride, a magnet keeps them at the back of the bag. Important: the magnets are very strong and can affect the function of pacemakers and implanted defibrillators. Inside there is one single large main compartment, kept deliberately as one open space, so the weight stays low and bulky loads fit. The Brom-E packs around 30 to 32 litres at 1.9 kg of weight. The bag comes out at H 30 to 45 × W 45 × D 21 to 25 cm. Between order and dispatch lie approx. 2 to 3 weeks of sewing.

Which bag frame fits the Brompton Electric?

The bag frame is the link between the Brom-E and the carrier block, and it slots in at the back of the bag. You buy it separately from a Brompton dealer. The matching frame is 44 cm wide, the width Brompton uses for its basket bag. Which version your bike needs depends on model and year. One variant fits the G-Line and the C+P+T system with rear-wheel drive, the other fits the C+P Line with front-wheel drive. When in doubt, your dealer knows which one fits.

The QUER concept, built for the Brompton Electric

The Brom-E shares the landscape idea with the QUER from LUMABAG: sideways in the carrier block, upright when carried. Inside, the QUER divides into a laptop compartment and five flat pockets, while the Brom-E keeps its one large main compartment for maximum load. LUMABAG designed the QUER for the classic Brompton and the Brom-E for the carrier block of the Brompton Electric. Off the bike, the Brom-E takes the separate carry strap for Bromfort, QUER and Brom-E and hangs from your shoulder.

What colours are available for the Brom-E?

Five colourways are on offer: Black, Denim, Otter Green, Scarlett and Tan. Material and construction stay the same in every colour.

How does the Brom-E handle rain?

Waxed cotton and ECOPAK shed water, and the Brom-E copes well with a rain shower. The seams remain the most sensitive spot: for long rides through steady rain, LUMABAG recommends a rain cover from an outdoor shop. You refresh the wax layer of the cotton with the LUMABAG wax tin.

How strong are the magnets on the Brom-E?

Very strong: the magnets keep the shoulder straps on the rear panel while you ride. LUMABAG states this clearly: the magnets can affect the function of pacemakers and implanted defibrillators.

Absolut cooler und durchdachter Rucksack für das e-Brommi! Hervorragendes Handling, besser als bei der original Brompton- E-Tasche. Auch deutlich mehr Platz als mit dieser Tasche. Die neuen, weiteren Farbkombinationen finde ich auch sehr gelungen! Klasse!!!
